Never rub another man's rhubarb

He also wants to build a tunnel to Russia.

Moon has been talking about saving the world with a tunnel to Russia. But astute AlterNet reader Mitch Kramer points out that his rival, power-hungry doomsday peddler Lyndon LaRouche, was talking about building his own world-saving tunnel to Russia shortly after 9/11, without a Neil Bush endorsement.

LaRouche, whose followers hand out “Dick Cheney: Beastman?” pamphlets on the fringes of peace rallies, has frequently lashed out at Moon, whose own access to the White House outlasted LaRouche (whose link to the Reagan Defense Department was exposed in The New Republic in the 1980s, with the pitch: Since 1981 the leaders of a lunatic movement have conferred repeatedly with top Administration officials. Their aims: to win respect, and to influence Reagan’s Star Wars plan. They succeeded.)

From a LaRouche publication:

LAROUCHE: There exist plans, which I’ve been involved in devising, which are now accepted in various parts of that part of the world, including a project called the “Eurasian Land-Bridge” project, which would involve all of continental Eurasia, or nearly all of it, from the Atlantic to the Pacific. It also involves putting a railroad tunnel into Alaska from Siberia, and the plan is to continue that road all the way down to Tierra del Fuego. There are also plans in Egypt, to extend the same system into Africa. This project could result in the greatest economic revival the planet has ever known.

My view is that, if we could get such a plan into motion, with the cooperation of the United States, that we can solve all the major problems which now confront us. We need a project to put the world back together.

Writes Kramer:

Do they get together in secret locations like comic book villains? Somehow I thought that Moon and LaRouche were bitter rivals. Maybe that’s all for show.
